Who is Main Squeeze?

Main Squeeze is a local smoothie shop in sunny Santa Monica, CA, on Main Street. They pride themselves on sourcing everything locally, making organic, healthy smoothies, and supporting local artists. It seems that they’ve been around since 2013, which is way before my time at UCLA! How did I not know about them?! I wish I had known about their smoothie shop sooner because I would’ve been there so often…

They recently accumulated a lot of attention on social media thanks to their nipple smoothies, which are regular smoothies put into a cup with a dome lid with smoothie flowing out the top of the lid. It looks amazing and is a great visual!

What is a Strawberry Fields Forever Smoothie?

One of their signature smoothies is their Strawberry Fields Forever (like the Beatles song), which has coconut milk, strawberries, almond or peanut butter, dates, sea salt, and vanilla. All the ingredients are listed on their menu, which makes it super easy to recreate at home. I would never have thought to add nut butter or vanilla to smoothies, but oh my god, I will now because it’s so good.

Their smoothies have a really thick and creamy texture, so it’s super satisfying to drink. Definitely more similar to a smoothie bowl rather than a watery juice smoothie.

They also have tons of other specialty smoothies, from green and sweet smoothies to fruity ones. I really want to try their Late Night Date next!

What Does a Strawberry Fields Forever Smoothie Taste Like?

To me, it tastes like the perfect mixture of fruity and creamy; it has a really subtle nutty flavor, which pairs really nicely with the dates and vanilla. I sometimes think strawberry smoothies are a little too strawberry-forward, but this one is perfectly balanced. I honestly don’t think I’ve tasted anything quite like this! It kind of tastes like a healthy dessert, like a strawberry banana healthy nice cream with peanut butter.

Strawberry Fields Forever Smoothie Recipe: Ingredients

Main Squeeze lists all its ingredients in the smoothie, so it’s easy to buy on your own:

  • Coconut Milk — I like to use the canned coconut milk because it’s slightly thicker and higher in fat. The carton one tends to be much more liquid and less rich. However, the perfect balance is the lite coconut milk in the can!
  • Strawberries — Frozen red strawberries are the best because they give your smoothie a fluffy texture once it’s blended. You can use fresh strawberries, but they won’t have the same texture.
  • Banana — Same with the strawberries, you want them frozen. Peel and cut bananas into pieces, then place them in the freezer overnight to have perfect bananas to use in smoothies! Fresh bananas will have a slimy texture and not much creamy texture.
  • Almond or Peanut Butter — You can use whichever nut butter you like better! I love peanut butter and like how it adds a nice, subtle nutty flavor, which I’m sure almond butter will also add.
  • Vanilla — I used vanilla extract, but you can use vanilla paste or vanilla bean.
  • Dates — Make sure that they’re pitted and soaked in warm water beforehand so it’s easy to blend. Medjool dates are best, but you can use any dates you have.
  • Sea Salt — Sometimes I leave this out, but a little sprinkle of salt just balances out the sweetness nicely.

How to Make a Strawberry Fields Forever Smoothie

  1. Add Ingredients to the Blender. Add the frozen strawberries, bananas, dates, nut butter, coconut milk, vanilla, and salt to a blender cup. Add the lid or cap, and if possible, give it a good shake or stir before blending, especially if your blender is old or on the weaker end.
  2. Blend Smoothie. Blend the smoothie for 10 seconds on medium speed until smooth. Make sure there are no chunks of unmixed ingredients; the nut butter tends to stick to the blender cup, so scrape it down if necessary.
  3. Assemble Drink. Once blended, pour the smoothie into a large glass or bottle, then garnish with a sliced strawberry if desired.
  4. Serve and Enjoy! Serve with a large straw or spoon and enjoy!

Tips for the Best Smoothie

  • Do Not Add Ice: I know it’s tempting to want to add ice, especially if you want a colder or icier texture, but unless you drink it immediately, the ice will melt and water down the smoothie later. Honestly, this is up to your preference, but if you like a creamy texture, ice is not your friend.
  • Use Frozen Fruit: Similarly, frozen fruit is the key to getting a fluffy, creamy smoothie texture. A powerful blender is most important for that texture, but frozen fruit is ideal for everyone!

FAQ’s

Can I use a different fruit?

Yes, you can swap strawberries for any other red berry, like raspberries, blackberries, or peaches. While the fruit swap will change the flavor, it will still have a nice, fresh, and tart flavor. I’m sure they would taste delicious!

How do I get that nipple smoothie shape?

I would get a plastic cup with a dome lid that has a hole in the center, then fill the cup until it’s stacked much higher than the edge. Add the dome lid on top and press the excess smoothie through the top to create that small dome shape.

Is this smoothie healthy?

It depends on what you think is healthy! If you’re comparing it to commercial smoothies from chains like Jamba, then yes, it is healthier because it uses whole ingredients. However, from a calorie standpoint, this smoothie is definitely heartier, running in the 500-600 calorie range. So while nutritious, it’s calorie-dense (which is not a bad thing)!
