Here’s how to make a delicious rose cream matcha latte at home!

Does Rose Go With Matcha?

Matcha pairs nicely with floral flavors, like lavender, orange blossom, sakura, and rose!

The rose adds a nice aroma, it’s soft and sweet, and balances matcha’s bitterness and savoriness. This contrast in flavors makes it so addictive! Rose milk on its own is also super creamy and delicious, so the matcha adds a nice touch of earthiness.

This combination is perfect for spring, Valentine’s Day, or Mother’s Day! Plus, the visuals are so striking and perfect for a themed party or brunch.

Benefits of Rose and Matcha

Did you know that matcha and rose are actually a great, antioxidant-dense combo? There are tons of benefits to eating them together; here are just a few health benefits:

  • Matcha is an antioxidant-rich tea thanks to how it’s grown. It’s full of anti-inflammatory catechins and L-theanine, which have relaxing effects.
  • Rose has beneficial medicinal effects, including anti-inflammation, anti-microbial, and helps fight diabetes, stress, and anxiety.

So, together, you have a pretty powerful drink! For a super healthy version, you can make a rose matcha tonic or smoothie.

How to Add Rose Flavor

Rose syrup is probably the best, easiest, and most convenient way to add it. You can buy syrup from well-known brands like Monin, 183, or Torani, or make it yourself at home (recipe below)!

You can also use rose extract to flavor your lattes, but it will have a more artificial rose flavor. However, it’s super convenient and you can find it in most Asian grocery stores for less than $5.

Rose water is another alternative! It’s not as concentrated as extract but is still quite strong and readily available at any Middle Eastern or Mediterranean grocery store.

I’ve also seen rose powder, which gives you a nice pink color, since you’re adding the whole petals to your latte. However, I’d bet that it doesn’t give you the strongest rose flavor since it’s unsteeped, and may change the texture of your drink.

How to Make Rose Syrup

As mentioned, it’s easy to make rose syrup at home, just make a simple syrup base and infuse it with dried rose petals or add rose water and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Rose water is a better way to make this syrup because it’s more potent and less time-consuming. You can let the dried rose petals sit and infuse into the syrup, but it will take a couple of hours, and you’ll need a lot of rose petals to get the same strength as rose water. However, if you want a subtle rose syrup, then infusion is for you!

If you want a pink syrup, add pink food coloring after the syrup is off the heat. You can use regular food dye or a natural food powder like beet root, strawberry, pitaya, etc.

How to Make Rose Cold Foam

Sweet cream cold foam is just a mix of heavy cream, milk, and sugar. With this base, you can make any flavor you want, including rose! You can add the rose extract or syrup to a mixture of cream and milk to make a rose cold foam.

The rose cold foam will have a super soft and fluffy texture, which makes any matcha latte fun to drink!

You’ll need 1/4 cup heavy cream, 2 tbsp milk, and rose extract or syrup, and an electric frother or mixer to whip your cold foam. Whip the cream for 10-20 seconds until the cream gets nice and fluffy.

For a denser topping, omit the milk and make rose whipped cream for an extra decadent drink.

How to Whisk Matcha

Finally, the most important part of making a matcha latte: whisking it properly!

Now, I have my lazy days where I use an electric handheld frother to mix my matcha into water for my latte. But whisking it is the best way to get a smooth matcha latte.

First, soak your matcha whisk in hot (not boiling) water until the bristles soften. Then, sift the matcha powder into a matcha bowl, and add water. Whisk for 20-30 seconds in a zigzag or M motion until a foam with small, tight bubbles forms on top.

Tips:

Here are some tips for making a delicious rose cream matcha latte at home!

  • Make Rose-Infused Milk: If you want an easy way of making a matcha rose latte, steep rose petals in hot milk for 20-30 minutes until you get a strong rose flavor. Taste the milk as you steep it. If it’s not strong enough, you may need to add more rose petals.
  • Not Floral Enough: If your rose syrup isn’t strong enough, also add more rose flavor or rosewater until it’s strong enough for your liking. It might also help steeping the rose petals in the hot syrup for longer as well.
  • Sift Your Matcha: For super smooth matcha, sift your matcha powder into your bowl before you whisk it. This helps break up any clumps of matcha that are impossible to get out otherwise. If you whisk matcha without sifting, you’ll see small clumps of matcha in your drink!
  • Add Vanilla: Vanilla makes any drink better! Especially with the delicate rose flavor, it takes it to another level! You can add it to the syrup or the drink itself.
