Best Pumpkin Spice Milk That’s Easy to Make

Looking for a creamy, delicious, and sweet pumpkin drink for fall or other time of the year? This is the best pumpkin spice milk that’s so easy to make at home with just 4 ingredients and 2 steps.

While it’s delicious on its own, this pumpkin spice milk is perfect for making any pumpkin-spiced drink like a pumpkin-spiced latte! You can make it ahead of time and enjoy it throughout the week or for a festive party beverage.

Here’s how to make pumpkin spice milk at home!

What is in Pumpkin Spice Milk?

This pumpkin spice milk has pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, sugar, milk, and ice. It’s sweet, creamy, earthy, nutty, spiced, and the perfect fall non-caffeinated beverage. It’s perfect for before bed or as a sweet dessert drink!

Most large coffee chains won’t have actual pumpkins in their pumpkin spice lattes, which is confusing. However, many smaller coffee shops use pumpkin puree or some pumpkin in their pumpkin syrup. You can make pumpkin puree or use canned pumpkin in this milk.

You can also customize it to your tastes or your favorite pumpkin pie. You can substitute sugar for condensed milk or brown sugar, regular milk for oat milk, and even different types of pumpkin.

What is in Pumpkin Pie?

Pumpkin pie inspired this drink! The ingredients in a pumpkin pie are similar to what is in this drink: pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, sugar, condensed milk, evaporated milk, and eggs.

Because most of the ingredients are edible, your milk will get really close to the pumpkin pie flavor. If you have an extra or secret ingredient you like to use in your pumpkin pie, like vanilla, go ahead and add it to this recipe.

This milk is even better topped with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon on top!

What is Pumpkin Milk?

Pumpkin milk usually refers to pumpkin spice milk or pumpkin seed milk.

The first is a sweet, creamy, pumpkin pie-flavored milk that tastes like your favorite. It’s super easy to make with all the ingredients used in an actual pumpkin pie.

Pumpkin seed milk, on the other hand, refers to a plant-based, non-dairy milk made by blending soaked pumpkin seeds. It’s nutty, slightly savory, creamy, and delicious! You’ll have to add some vanilla, sugar, and salt to balance the slight bitterness, but it’s great on its own or in lattes.

You can even add pumpkin spice to pumpkin seed milk to make a healthy version of this pumpkin spice milk or pumpkin pie latte.

What Does Pumpkin Spice Milk Taste Like?

As mentioned, pumpkin spice milk tastes like a delicious, comforting pumpkin pie. It’s basically a thinner, drinkable version of pumpkin pie filling. It’s sweet, creamy, a little savory, warmly spiced, and milky.

This milk leans desserty, so it’s more of a sweet treat than a daily, neutral milk like oat or almond milk. It’s great by itself or in cafe-style beverages. It’s the base for my delicious pumpkin pie latte, my homemade version of a pumpkin spice latte.

Where to Get Pumpkin Spice Milk

Luckily, pumpkin spice is such a popular seasonal flavor, probably the most popular fall flavor. You can find ready-to-drink pumpkin spice-flavored milk at the grocery store!

I’ve seen pumpkin pie milk, pumpkin spice oat milk, pumpkin spice creamers, and even pumpkin spice whipped cream in late September throughout mid-November. They’re usually sweetened and found as milk or a non-dairy product.

These are super easy to pick up and use in coffee or as a drink alone. You can also find ready-to-drink pumpkin spice lattes as well!

What Sweetener Tastes Best in Pumpkin Spice Milk?

I think condensed milk is the best sweetener for pumpkin spice milk. I tried different sweeteners, from regular granulated sugar to brown sugar to condensed milk, and while the others were good, none gave me that distinct pumpkin pie taste like condensed milk.

Most pumpkin pie recipes call for condensed milk as the sweetener alongside regular sugar, but I’ve also seen maple syrup and brown sugar. I guess it’s up to your preference and what you like!

If you’re being cautious about sugar, you can also use more blood sugar-friendly options like monkfruit, agave, or stevia. You could also try honey!

Pumpkin Spice Milk Recipe

This is a really easy recipe!

  1. Make the pumpkin milk. Mix or blend pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, sugar or condensed milk, and milk using a spoon or handheld frother until there are no visible pumpkin chunks or undissolved sugar.
  2. Optional: Once smooth, strain using a fine mesh sieve. Pumpkin puree sometimes has fibers in it, which can make the milk less smooth and creamy.
  3. Serve the pumpkin spice milk in a glass alone or over ice. Top with whipped cream if desired!
  4. Mix and enjoy!

How to Make This Dairy-Free

Are you lactose intolerant, vegan, or don’t like dairy? You can easily make this recipe dairy-free by using your favorite milk alternative. Any creamy plant-based milk works best with this recipe, like oat or coconut milk.

You can also use coconut condensed milk, maple syrup, sugar, brown sugar, or agave as a sweetener. If you’re making plant milk from scratch, you can also make it pumpkin spiced by adding all the ingredients in the blender when you make your mylk.

Tips

Here are some tips for making sweet and creamy pumpkin spice milk at home!

  • If you made a big batch, store it in an airtight container in the fridge and consume it within a week.
  • You can omit the sugar if you want it to be plain. However, I don’t recommend this unless you love pumpkin on its own. Pumpkin is very savory unless you use a specific sweet pumpkin like kabocha or sugar pumpkin, and it will taste… less than ideal in milk.
