How to Make Pink Drink with Matcha Cold Foam

Add an earthy, creamy twist to a fruity and refreshing pink drink! Trust me, this pink drink with matcha cold foam is a killer combination when you want something light yet creamy. The cream works ridiculously well with the juicy strawberry and creamy coconut.

It’s super easy to make at home and at a fraction of the cost you’d spend at Starbucks!

Here’s how to make a pink drink with matcha cold foam at home!

What is a Pink Drink?

Ahh, I remember when the pink drink exploded in popularity, I was in middle school and absolutely obsessed with the fruity, milky drink. The pink drink is a strawberry acai juice with coconut milk and freeze-dried strawberries served over ice.

It’s a delicious and refreshing drink that is fruity, pastel pink, and perfect for hot days. Nowadays, people get it with flavored cold foams on top for extra creaminess.

What Does a Pink Drink Taste Like?

A pink drink tastes mostly like white grape juice and sugar, and it has a balanced strawberry taste with a slightly savory and creamy taste from coconut milk. It’s really refreshing and fruity, with a slight tang which is washed away by the coconut.

You don’t really get a strong acai flavor (if at all) and the most pronounced flavor is the juice. Think Caprisun, OceanSpray, Kool-Aid… you get it! That’s probably why it’s so popular, haha.

Is the Pink Drink Good with Matcha Cold Foam?

If you like matcha strawberry lattes, then you’ll probably like this! This drink is refreshing and creamy, and it has the same vibe as an ice cream float or cream soda. The matcha cold foam adds a nice creaminess and earthiness to the fruity and bright pink drink.

You might be skeptical about adding a cream to a refreshing drink, but trust me, it works. It’s similar to another viral drink (the coconut matcha cloud) that has matcha cream on top of coconut water.

Once you mix the cream into the drink, it has a super refreshing quality while being creamy but not heavy. It’s delicious!

How to Order This Drink at Starbucks

So, a pink drink with matcha cold foam isn’t actually a formal item at Starbucks. It went viral on social media and now is a “secret menu” item of sorts, like many Starbucks drink concoctions (think: pink drink with chocolate cold foam, matcha latte with lavender cold foam, etc.).

If you want to order this out, ask for a pink drink with sweet cream cold foam (or vanilla cold foam) and ask for a scoop of matcha blended into the cold foam. Or, you can try asking for the pink drink with matcha cold foam (and hope the barista knows what you mean!)

How to Make the Pink Drink

The pink drink from Starbucks is notoriously hard to recreate at home. According to Starbucks, the pink drink is made with a strawberry acai base, coconut milk, and freeze-dried strawberries.

It sounds simple, but each component has multiple ingredients. The base is made with green grape juice, strawberry acai juice, and green coffee extract (caffeine) and the coconut milk has coconut water and coconut cream.

To make this simple, I just used coconut water, coconut milk, and strawberry syrup/puree to recreate a similar taste without the hassle of getting different ingredients.

How to Make Matcha Cold Foam

The matcha cold foam makes this drink special!

All you need is heavy cream, sugar, milk, and matcha powder. Most cafes use a blender or electric mixer to whip large batches of cream, but for a single serving an electric frother or hand whisk works best.

For matcha cold foam, first, sift the matcha and add a little bit of water in a bowl until you get a smooth paste. Then, combine all ingredients in a small cup or bowl and, using an electric frother or whisk, whip the cream until soft and fluffy but still pourable.

It should not be thick like whipped cream, otherwise it won’t have the same satisfying, soft texture.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a pink drink with matcha cold foam at home:

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 tbsp strawberry syrup or puree

Pink Drink with Matcha Cold Foam Recipe

  1. Make Pink Drink. Combine strawberry syrup or puree, coconut water, and coconut milk in a glass and mix until well combined.
  2. Make Koicha. Sift matcha powder into a bowl and add a very small amount of water. Using a matcha whisk or fork, gently “knead” the matcha powder in circular motions until it turns into a paste. You can add a little more water if the paste is too thick. You should get a very green, dark matcha concentrate with no clumps.
  3. Make Matcha Cold Foam. Add your matcha paste, sugar, and heavy cream into a tall cup or bowl, then using an electric frother or mixer, whip the cream until you get a softly whipped cream. You can also add 2 tbsp of milk for a fluffier cream.
  4. Assemble Drink. Add ice and pink drink to a glass, then top with your matcha cold foam. Garnish with a dusting or matcha powder or strawberry slice.
  5. Mix and Enjoy!

Tips:

Here are some tips for making a refreshing pink drink with matcha cold foam at home!

  • Use Starbucks Bottled Acai Refresher Drink: If you don’t have coconut milk or other ingredients to make a pink drink, you can always use a Starbucks ready-to-drink pink drink instead. That way, you only have to make the matcha cold foam to add on top.
  • Whisk Matcha First: Whisk the matcha powder first, then add it to heavy cream and whip it. This will produce a much smoother cream with no clumps. Adding the matcha powder straight into the liquid will result in clumps that make your cream grainy.
  • Add Vanilla: For a closer taste of Starbucks cold foam, add a little vanilla extract or flavor into your cold foam! The default sweet cream cold foam has vanilla in it, and it goes nicely with matcha!
