Smooth, silky cold brew with a sweet, creamy, slightly maple cold foam. Doesn’t that sound divine? It’s the perfect coffee for days when you need something sweet and strong. It’s great on its own or with a dusting of cinnamon for the perfect fall beverage.

Sweet cream cold foam is probably the best topping for any cold brew coffee because it adds so much creaminess without diluting the flavor. It’s easy to make at home; this drink only needs 4 ingredients and 5 minutes. Make this as a sweet treat for yourself!

Here’s how to make a maple cold foam cold brew at home!

What is Sweet Cream Cold Foam?

Sweet cream cold foam is sweetened heavy cream with a little bit of milk that is frothed or whipped until it becomes a fluffy foam. It’s a popular drink topper for coffee, matcha, chai, etc.

It’s a sweet and creamy addition to any drink, making it more decadent! I love adding it to cold brews or strong coffees. You can also add it to lattes or milk-based cafe drinks for a more dessert-like drink.

You can make it easily at home with the three ingredients mentioned and customize it to your taste! The foam can be as liquid or stiff as you’d like, but generally it should be a drinkable yogurt consistency and pourable.

Maple Syrup vs. Maple Cream vs. Maple Butter

In this recipe, maple cream refers to a maple-flavored semi-whipped cream that goes on top of drinks. However, there is also an actual item called maple cream which can be confusing, so here are the differences between maple syrup, maple cream, and maple butter:

  • Maple syrup: A semi-viscous sweet syrup with a slight caramel taste made from boiling maple tree sap.
  • Maple cream: A rich, creamy, sweet spread made from boiling maple syrup then cooling it and whipping it until it becomes a thick, spreadable consistency.
  • Maple butter: Maple-flavored butter.

So, maple syrup, cream, and butter refer to different products made with maple syrup. However, maple cream and maple butter are sometimes used interchangeably, which can be confusing.

If you’re ever wondering which is which, just look at the ingredients! Maple cream will only have maple syrup as its ingredient.

What Does Maple Cream Taste Like?

Maple cream tastes exactly like maple syrup because, well, that’s what it is: whipped maple syrup! However, the allure of the product is its consistency. Maple cream is thicker and smoother, similar to peanut butter.

It’s spreadable and perfect for toast, waffles, scones, biscuits, cakes, cupcakes, etc.

Maple Syrup vs. Pancake Syrup

If that’s confusing, maple syrup and pancake syrup are also not the same, even though they are used interchangeably.

While maple syrup is boiled sweet sap from maple trees, pancake syrup is usually high fructose corn syrup with maple flavoring. Maple syrup is usually pricier because harvesting maple tree sap is tedious labor, and maple trees only produce sap at certain times of the year.

Pancake syrup is an extremely cheap alternative, making it a popular syrup for pancakes, breakfast houses, or even your homemade breakfasts.

Is Maple Syrup Good in Iced Coffee?

Maple syrup is a great sweetener in coffee! Because it’s liquid, it dissolves fast and easily in hot liquids like espresso or coffee. Compared to regular sugar, which takes a while to dissolve (which is why many coffee shops use simple syrup).

It’s also mild in flavor; maple syrup has a subtle caramel-like flavor, which pairs nicely with other flavors and doesn’t overpower matcha, coffee, etc.

For example, a delicious maple syrup cinnamon latte, salted maple syrup matcha, etc. Compared to brown sugar, which has a distinct molasses flavor that can be overpowering.

Also, you don’t need much maple syrup to sweeten coffee! Usually, a teaspoon is more than enough for a medium-sized drink.

Does Maple Syrup Dissolve in Cold Coffee?

The fact that maple syrup dissolves in cold coffee quickly makes it one of the best coffee sweeteners! Cold liquids, including regular sugar, honey, etc., are notoriously bad for dissolving sugar or sweeteners.

However, maple syrup has a much higher water content than honey, so it dissolves faster and easier in cold liquids. If you add honey or regular sugar in an iced coffee, it will take minutes to dissolve versus seconds for maple syrup.

How to Make Maple Cold Foam Cold Brew

Here’s what you’ll need to make maple cream cold brew:

  • A handheld frother or electric whisk or regular whisk
  • Half and half (or heavy cream and milk)
  • Maple syrup
  • Milk
  • Ice
  • Cold brew

Maple Cold Foam Cold Brew Recipe

First, brew a batch of cold brew concentrate the day before you want to make this drink.

I like using a 1 to 10 water to coffee ground ratio, so I don’t need to dilute the cold brew afterward. You can make it as strong or weak as you like. I steep my coffee in a mason jar, but you can use any lidded jar or jug. Brew the coffee for at least 16 hours, ideally overnight.

Then, make your maple cold foam when your cold brew is ready to drink. You can use either half and half or a heavy cream and milk mixture to make your cold foam.

Add maple syrup, half and half or heavy cream milk, and a little salt into a cup or bowl. Whip it until fluffy foam forms. The sweetened mixture should double in size and have a pourable consistency.

Add ice and cold brew into a separate cup, then top with your maple cold foam. Mix and enjoy!

Is Cold Brew Stronger than Coffee?

The stereotype is that cold brew is insanely caffeinated. However, that’s not always the case.

Taste-wise, cold brew is usually smooth and not bitter but has a nice coffee taste.

Caffeine-wise, if you are talking about cold brew concentrate, it will have, on average, 2-3x more caffeine than a regular cup of coffee. However, a cold brew coffee (cold brew concentrate with water) will probably have the same amount as a regularly brewed coffee.

So, it depends on what cold brew you are talking about!

Is Cold Brew Healthier?

According to a Harvard nutritionist, cold brew coffee is just as healthy as regularly brewed coffee. They both equally decrease the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

However, cold brew can contribute to you making healthier decisions! Since cold brew is smoother and has less acidity, you won’t have to worry as much about heartburn or stomach problems. It might also influence you to make healthier decisions, like not having to add as much sugar or milk!

Tips

Here are some tips on how to make a delicious maple cream cold brew at home!

  • You can make a large batch of cold brew concentrate and leave it in the fridge for up to a week! You can use it in lattes, drink it alone, or make iced coffees.
  • Look for the label that says pure maple syrup or 100% pure maple syrup to ensure you get actual maple syrup. Otherwise, you may be getting an artificial syrup.
  • If you overwhip your cream, add a little regular cream and re-whip. It will help deflate it so you can get the right consistency.
  • If you use half and half, make sure to use it right away! It won’t hold its shape as well as heavy cream and milk will.
