What is in a Mango Matcha Latte?

A mango matcha latte is made from fresh mango puree, milk, ice, and whisked matcha. It combines the tropical, juicy flavor from mangoes with earthy matcha that are surprisingly an amazing combination.
This recipe uses mango puree, which has the best flavor and texture. But if you don’t have that on hand, you can easily swap in mango syrup (homemade or store-bought), freeze-dried mango powder, or even a splash of mango extract to get that fruity twist.
What Does a Mango Matcha Latte Taste Like?

A mango matcha latte is creamy, tropical, and finishes with a satisfying umami note. It’s a surprisingly delicious combo that works beautifully—especially if you’re a fan of mango smoothies. Because mangoes are more sweet and juicy than tangy, it’s really addicting in creamy drinks or desserts.
In each sip, you taste juicy, ripe mango, followed by a smooth blend of earthy matcha and cream. As it lingers, you’ll notice subtle floral, peachy, and vanilla notes that round out the flavor in the most refreshing way.
This combination is super creamy (and not tart) which makes me go back for more!
Do Mango and Matcha Go Together?
Mango and matcha go surprisingly well together! The bold, earthy flavor of matcha contrasts beautifully with the sweet, tropical notes of mango, creating a balanced and refreshing drink.
Matcha naturally pairs well with fruits because the vegetal, slightly bitter undertones bring out the brightness and sweetness of fruit flavors—especially ones like mango that are juicy and aromatic. And I’m sure you’ve seen combinations like strawberry matcha, blueberry matcha, passionfruit matcha, and the list goes on.
The result is a layered taste experience, making it a unique and satisfying combo that’s perfect for lattes, smoothies, or even desserts.
How to Add Mango Flavor

As mentioned, fresh mango puree is the best way to add mango flavor and it’s so easy to make. You’ll need a ripe mango, water, and a small blender. Cut and dice your mango into small pieces. Then, add the mango and a tbsp of water to the blender cup. Blend for 10-15 seconds until the mango puree is smooth.
If you want extra texture, feel free to blend the mango less or add in small chunks afterwards. The riper the mango, the sweeter it will be! But if you want your puree sweeter, add a tsp of sweetener.
Here are some other ways to add mango:
- Mango Syrup: Add 1/2-1 tbsp of syrup to your drink.
- Freeze Dried Mango Powder: Add 1/2 tbsp powder and water into a tall glass. Mix until you have a concentrate, then add milk. You can also mix the powder directly into the milk, but it may have small clumps.
- Whole Mango: Blend the mango directly into your milk for super fast and easy mango milk. No cooking or extra steps required.
How to Whisk Matcha

Whisking matcha properly is the key to getting that ultra-smooth, creamy texture without any clumps—and of course, the signature frothy top that makes a matcha latte look and taste so good.
You’ll need a bamboo whisk (called a chasen) and a bowl. I like to soak the whisk in warm water for a few seconds first—it softens the bristles and makes whisking easier. Next, sift your matcha into the bowl to break up any clumps before you add water.
Start by whisking slowly to break up the powder. Then pick up speed and whisk in a quick zigzag or “W” motion for about 15–20 seconds. You’ll know it’s ready when you see a smooth, velvet-like layer of foam on top. (See a tutorial here.)
Pro Tip: Use just your wrist to whisk—not your whole arm—it gives you way more control (and saves you a workout).
Best Matcha Powders to Use
This mango matcha latte tastes best with a bold, umami matcha powder. My favorites include Ippodo’s Ummon blend, Rocky’s Ceremonial matcha, or Yamamasa Koyamaen’s Shikibu blend. These matcha powders lean more umami than others, which provide the perfect balance for mango.
However, if you’re not a fan of umami, you can also use powders that lean more creamy or nutty. Some of these include Yamamasa’s Biwa no Shiro and Marukyu Koyamaen’s Isuzu.
But use whatever you have!

Tips:
Here are some tips for making a delicious mango matcha latte at home!
- Make Layers: This is the perfect drink for making layers. Add the mango puree to the bottom, then add ice. Pour your milk directly onto ice until it creates a layer, then repeat with the matcha. You should have three layers at the end!
- Use Sweet, Ripe Mangoes: Mangoes are naturally super sweet, especially when ripe, so you won’t need to add any additional sugar. I like using red or yellow mangoes since they tend to be sweeter, and are in season around late spring to early summer. Pick mangoes that are slightly soft when you press a finger into them and have the best color.
- Leave Mango Puree Chunky: This drink is super smooth, so if you want extra texture, blend your mango puree less to leave small chunks in it. They’ll be a nice treat at the end of your latte.
- Add Boba: This mango matcha latte is a great base for boba! Just boil and sweeten tapioca pearls and add them to the bottom of this drink.
