A lavender London Fog is one of the tastiest renditions of a classic Earl Grey tea latte. It’s fruity, citrusy, floral, creamy, bold, and smooth, making a flavorful, bold cup of tea that you’ll love drinking!
The best part is that this lavender London fog is super easy to make at home, and you can enjoy it hot or cold! Who doesn’t love a floral, cozy cup of Earl Grey?
Here’s how to make this delicious lavender London fog at home!
What is a London Fog?

When I first discovered this drink, I genuinely did not know it was tea, let alone Earl Grey tea. The London Fog is an Earl Grey tea latte, usually hot with steamed milk, with the addition of vanilla or lavender syrup. The more common flavor is vanilla, though.
The story behind the creation is that it started as a pregnancy craving! A pregnant woman ordered an Earl Grey tea latte with vanilla sugar, and it was so good she kept ordering it. While she didn’t name it, her craving was so good that it spread all over.
What is Earl Grey Tea?

Earl Grey tea is a black tea blend infused with the oil from bergamot, a citrus fruit known for its bright, slightly floral, and bitter aroma. The bergamot gives Earl Grey its signature flavor: fragrant, bold black tea and a punch of citrusy sweetness. It’s also incredibly smooth and the bergamot citrus-flavor can almost taste spicy!
While traditionally made with black tea, you can also find variations that use green tea, rooibos, or even herbal blends. This tea makes amazing drinks, like this lavender London Fog, Earl Grey hot chocolate, or even bubble tea! Earl Grey goes especially nicely with milk, so any creamy tea-based drink will be a hit.
Does a London Fog Have Lavender in it?
While a London Fog can have lavender in it, it normally does not. As mentioned, it usually has either vanilla syrup or regular simple syrup, sometimes honey. But the lavender version is definitely popular, and it’s sometimes also called a lavender fog.
I would not assume all London Fogs have lavender in them, though; any cafe menu will usually say if it does or not.
What Does a Lavender London Fog Taste Like?

Earl Grey tea lattes on their own are bold, slightly malty, citrusy, and creamy. With vanilla, it can kind of taste like fruit loops! But with lavender, it takes on a nice floral aroma with that herby lavender taste that is so nice.
Lavender can kind of have a slightly minty and herby aroma, since it’s a part of the mint family!
I especially like London Fog drinks with lavender because the floral flavor goes well with bergamot. It’s not too floral or overpowering with the added milk.
This iced lavender London fog drink also has a creamy lavender cream top, making it twice as good.
How to Add Lavender Flavor
There are multiple ways you can add lavender flavor, but the easiest way is with lavender syrup, which you can buy or make at home.
You can find lavender syrup online and in grocery stores, but it’s a more niche flavor compared to caramel, chocolate, or vanilla and may not be readily available. A bottle will run you anywhere from $10-$15. Making lavender syrup is also easy, and you can follow the steps in the next section.
Lavender bitters are a super-easy way to add lavender flavor to any drink, and are also unsweetened if you want more control over your sugar. However, bitters will usually have other herbs mixed into the tincture, so you might taste more herbal flavors as a result.
And in the same thread, lavender extract is also a good alternative to add lavender flavor to drinks. The extract will be a lot more potent though, so be careful how much you add!
How to Make Lavender Simple Syrup

Lavender syrup is the key ingredient to this drink, and it’s very easy to make at home! You’ll need sugar, water, and culinary-grade dried lavender buds.
First, make simple syrup using equal parts sugar and water (you can use less sugar if you’d like). This will make the base for your lavender simple syrup. Just dissolve the sugar in hot water and let it reduce until you get the desired consistency.
Turn the heat off and add your dried lavender buds into the hot syrup and let them steep for at least 10 minutes. You can also steep this overnight for a bolder flavor.
Once it’s done steeping, remove the lavender buds and bottle your syrup in an airtight jar or bottle. It will keep fresh in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.
How to Make Lavender Cold Foam

Lavender cold foam is so easy to make and only takes 3 ingredients.
All you need is heavy cream, 2% milk, and lavender syrup! You can also add food coloring for a gorgeous lilac color.
You’ll also want an electric frother to make the cold foam, as opposed to an electric mixer. The handheld frother is perfect for a single serving and easily usable with a smaller mug or bowl. Make sure you use a tall glass so that the foam doesn’t splash everywhere.
Add all the ingredients to your cup, then whip your cold foam until it doubles in size and is light and fluffy. You want it to be pourable and not stiff like whipped cream.
