Here’s how to make a creamy iced lavender cream oat milk matcha at home!

What is the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha?

This drink is a Starbucks spring seasonal which is an iced matcha latte with classic syrup and lavender cold foam. It’s sweet, creamy, floral, and perfectly earthy, which is the perfect spring drink!

It’s a fairly new drink but popular, especially with matcha’s skyrocketing popularity.

How Many Calories are in the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha?

According to Starbucks, a grande iced lavender cream oatmilk matcha latte has 380 calories. I assume that most of the calories come from the lavender cold foam and the brand of oat milk they use.

If you make this with less cold foam or oat milk or use a different brand of oat milk, your drink will have fewer calories. But generally, a regular-sized homemade drink will have roughly the same amount of calories!

What Does the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha Taste Like?

Something about floral and matcha together makes this drink taste like fruity pebbles! This matcha latte has a soft and subtle lavender aroma and flavor which blends with the umami and smooth matcha. Paired with the sweetener, it has a fruity aroma and flavor.

The floral flavor is present, so if you don’t like floral flavors you probably won’t like this drink as much. The oat milk adds extra creaminess on top of the cold foam, so you get a smooth and creamy latte.

Do Matcha and Lavender Taste Good Together?

Indeed they do! There’s a reason why lavender matcha lattes are popular, especially during the springtime when the weather warms up and floral flavors have their moment!

Lavender has a unique floral taste that is forward yet subtle, which perfectly balances matcha’s nice earthy, slightly bitter, and umami flavor profile. You may even find that lavender has similar qualities to mint, rosemary, and thyme, which are quite herbaceous and fresh!

How to Make Lavender Syrup

Lavender syrup is the key ingredient in this lavender sweet cream cold foam and it’s fairly simple to make at home! All you need is sugar, water, and culinary-grade dried lavender buds.

First, make simple syrup using equal parts sugar and water (you can use less sugar if you’d like). This will make the base for your lavender simple syrup. Just dissolve the sugar in hot water and let it reduce until you get your desired consistency.

Turn the heat off, and while hot, add your dried lavender buds and let the mixture steep for at least 10 minutes. You can also steep this overnight for a bold lavender flavor.

Once it’s done steeping, remove the lavender buds and bottle your syrup in an airtight jar or bottle. It will keep fresh in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.

How to Make Lavender Cold Foam

Once you make lavender cold foam at home, you’ll never have to buy it out again! It’s so easy and only takes 3 ingredients.

Lavender cold foam is made of heavy cream, 2% milk, and lavender syrup! You can also add food coloring for a gorgeous lilac color.

You’ll want to use an electric frother to make the cold foam and it’s perfect for a single serving. Make sure you use a tall glass so that the foam doesn’t splash everywhere.

Whip your cold foam until it doubles in size and is light and fluffy. You want it to be pourable and not stiff like whipped cream.

What Matcha Powder to Use

You might be wondering what the best matcha powder is to use for this drink. The short answer is: any matcha you want! You can use your favorite matcha powder, which can range in price and flavor profiles.

Typically, most cafe matches are a balanced blend of creamy and savory, where you get a nice nuttiness from the matcha with a smooth umami aftertaste. This is perfect for mixed matcha drinks where you still want the matcha flavor to come through, but not overpower the flavors.

Some pretty balanced matcha powders include Wako from Marukyu Koyamaen, Matchakari Ceremonial powder, Rocky’s Ceremonial powder, and Ippodo’s Ummon (which I say is bold; it packs a large umami punch.) You can find more matcha powder recommendations in my matcha blog!

Tips:

Here are some tips for making a delicious iced lavender cream oatmilk matcha latte at home!

  • Add Lavender Syrup to the Latte: If you want more lavender flavor in your drink, you can add lavender syrup to your matcha latte! It will make both the cold foam and the drink taste like lavender, instead of just the cold foam.
  • Sift and Whisk Your Matcha: I know frothing matcha powder sounds tempting, but sometimes that method leads to clumps in your drink, which gives you grainy matcha. Sifting and whisking matcha gets rid of any clumps and gives you an ultra-smooth matcha latte.
