You need to try coconut water and coffee together. It sounds different initially, but the coconut water makes coffee so refreshing and delicious. It’s the perfect post-workout drink, which has both energy and electrolytes!
This drink is thirst-quenching and has a unique sweet flavor. It’s also one of the most healthy coffee drinks besides water, espresso, or brewed coffee. It’s so easy to make and a drink you must try at least once! Plus, this recipe adds a creamy coffee cream on top for extra deliciousness.
Here’s how to make a creamy coconut water coffee drink at home!
Is Coffee and Coconut Water Good?
Coffee and coconut water are an unexpectedly perfect match, creating a drink that’s light, refreshing, and full of natural flavor. Coconut water has a slight viscosity that adds a satisfying body to coffee—making it feel just a bit richer without the heaviness of milk or cream. Plus, the subtle coconut flavor complements coffee’s earthiness.
One of the best things about coconut water in coffee is its natural sweetness, which reduces the need for added sugar. This natural sweetness is unique—delicate yet flavorful—and enhances coffee’s smoothness without overpowering its taste.
It’s also packed with electrolytes, giving you a hydrating boost, so it’s a great option if you want a delicious and revitalizing coffee drink. Coconut water is a fantastic alternative base for iced coffee, offering extra flavor and refreshment that plain water just can’t match.
Are Coconut and Coffee Good Together?

Yes! Coconut and coffee are great together—the rich, bold notes of coffee pair nicely with coconut’s natural sweetness and subtle tropical taste.
Different types of coconut also taste good with coffee.
Coconut water adds a refreshing twist to coffee and is a lighter alternative to traditional cream or milk without overpowering the coffee.
Coconut milk is a great, smooth, creamy, and light alternative dairy.
And coconut cream is an absolute delight when you want something a little more indulgent but still refreshing.
What Does Coconut and Coffee Taste Like?
Coconut brings out unique flavors in coffee, especially when using a dark roast, where you’ll get hints of chocolate and toasted nuts. And, if you’re using coconut milk or coconut water, they add a velvety texture that complements the coffee so well without overpowering it.
This flavor pairing is incredibly versatile—the two flavors blend seamlessly, whether it’s a coconut latte, iced coffee with coconut water, or even a coconut-flavored cold brew. Every time, you’ll get a flavorful, refreshing, and (just a little) tropical drink.
Why Add Coconut Water to Your Coffee?
Coconut water is packed with some amazing health benefits! Here are some of its superpowers:
- Hydration Powerhouse: Coconut water contains natural electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and manganese, keeping us hydrated and refreshed.
- Supports Blood Sugar: With little to no added sugar and a low glycemic index, coconut water is safe for blood sugar levels and might even help lower them.
- Blood Pressure Benefits: The high potassium content in coconut water is known to help reduce blood pressure, making it a heart-friendly option.
- Loaded with Nutrients and Antioxidants: Coconut water brings an impressive array of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals to the table, adding a nutrient boost to your drink.
So, it’s a delicious way to hydrate and get a little extra wellness with every sip of your coffee! This drink also tastes phenomenal with matcha, which is slightly earthy and bitter, with a natural sweetness and umami.
Best Coconut Water

Not all coconut waters are the same, so it’s worth experimenting to find a brand you really love. I personally enjoy Vita Coco and Harmless Harvest, but there are so many options out there to explore! Many larger grocery stores also carry their own brands, like Whole Foods’ 365 or Trader Joe’s, which can be convenient and affordable.
Of course, the best option is fresh coconut water straight from a coconut if you can access it, which has the best taste and freshness! But, realistically, most of us are reaching for bottled or boxed versions for convenience.
You might also come across pink coconut water, which is said to have a naturally sweeter and nuttier flavor than regular coconut water. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking to switch things up!
What is in This Coconut Water Coffee Drink?
This drink has coconut water, coffee cream, and ice. You can add espresso, cold brew, or instant coffee alone into coconut water, and you’ll get an amazing drink. But the added cream gives it a creaminess that is so, so good.
I used heavy whipping cream and instant coffee to make my sweetened coffee cream, but you can use any other cream or milk you’d like. Instant coffee works great with cream because it doesn’t have water to dilute it.
You can even whip up some dalgona coffee and add it to coconut water, too!
