Unique Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte Recipe

I’m sure you’ve had cereal with your coffee, but have you had it in your coffee? Cereal is every American kid’s breakfast (including mine), and everyone has their favorite. I’m partial to Honey Nut Cheerios, but Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a fan favorite. As I’ve gotten older, though, I never thought I’d try a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte!

Cereal in coffee is basically adult breakfast, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch makes a horchata-like milk that is so sweet and delicious, perfect for coffee. You can eat the cereal first, then enjoy the sweet drink afterward.

Here’s how to make a delicious Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte!

What is Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch, made by General Mills, is a whole grain and rice cereal shaped into small squares and dusted with their crazy addicting Cinnadust, a mix of cinnamon and sugar.

I remember distinctly watching the commercials growing up with the Crazy Squares, which is the cereal mascot. They lick each other and go crazy trying to nibble a piece from their frenemies, selling how delicious their product is.

In milk, the cereal has a satisfying crunch (as the name suggests). It’s especially good at that perfect stage of crunchy and ever-so-slightly soggy.

While it’s called Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the United States, you might find it in other countries, just named different things. I hear it’s called Cini-Mini in Europe!

Is Cinnamon Toast Crunch Healthy?

I hate to break it to you, but Cinnamon Toast Crunch is not that healthy. I mean, each cereal square is covered in sugar.

The cereal itself is made of various sugars, including fructose, maltodextrin, dextrose, and sugar. One serving of cereal has 12 grams of added sugar, and its main nutritional component is primarily carbohydrates.

While eating it in moderation is okay, it’s more of a dessert than a breakfast. Other breakfast choices fulfill other nutrient goals and have more protein, fat, etc.

I still love the cereal, though; it tastes so good at midnight…

What’s a Cinnamon Toast Crunch at Starbucks?

Starbucks has no official Cinnamon Toast Crunch drink, but fans have made their own CTC-inspired secret menu item.

The drink has different variations, but generally, it’s an iced white mocha with added cinnamon dolce syrup topped with sugar, cinnamon, and optional whipped cream.

I’ve personally never tried it (way too sweet for me), but it sounds delicious.

Can I Add Cereal to Coffee?

The better question is, should you add cereal to coffee? But yes, of course, you can add cereal to coffee.

You can add cereal to coffee as an easy way to sweeten your coffee and get a small snack. Adding cereal to a latte to sweeten the milk is more popular, so enjoy the cereal milk with your coffee afterward.

Add cereal, coffee, ice, and milk into a blender for a frappuccino. The possibilities are endless with cereal and coffee!

Cereal is essentially a vehicle for flavor and sugar, so it works well in drinks or desserts.

What is an Iced Latte?

An iced latte is ice, cold milk, and hot espresso layered together. Every coffee shop serves it as part of their basic menu, and it’s one of the most popular standard drinks to order, hot or iced.

Because the espresso mixes with milk, it’s ideal for those who prefer a milky coffee. The flavor is still strong, though, because the espresso is a concentrated shot of coffee.

You can get really creative with the flavors of an iced latte, from different spices, flavored syrups, milk alternatives, and more.

How to Make an Iced Latte

First, add ice, milk, and desired syrup or sweetener in a cup. Then, pull one or two shots of espresso and add it on top of your milk! The espresso usually sits on top of the milk until you stir it.

While it’s ideal to use espresso, not everyone wants to pull espresso or have an at-home espresso machine. They can get really expensive and have a large learning curve.

Instead, you can use espresso alternatives like instant espresso powder, strongly brewed coffee, cold brew coffee, etc. As long as the coffee is concentrated, it’s useable for an iced latte.

How to Make Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte

To make a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte, you can either add the cereal after you make a regular iced latte or mix the cereal into the milk before adding the coffee.

I prefer mixing the cereal and milk together first so that you sweeten the milk, then add the ice and coffee on top.

If you don’t want to eat the cereal, you can extract the flavor from your drink and discard it afterward. However, the cereal is so good, even with coffee!

How to Eat It

The most popular question about this cereal latte is, “Won’t the cereal get soggy?“. Yes, if you leave the cereal in the drink for too long, it will soak up the milk and turn soft.

However, it’s an easy fix! Make your coffee first, then add the cereal to the milk last. Then, eat all the cereal before sipping your latte.

You’ll get to eat crunchy cereal without it turning mushy and sad.

Can I Make it Without Cereal?

You can make the latte without the cereal if you don’t have Cinnamon Toast Crunch but still want the same flavor.

Alternative 1: Use cinnamon syrup and sugar to flavor your milk, then add your ice and espresso on top.

Alternative 2: Use ground cinnamon and sugar for your milk.

Alternative 3: Buy or make horchata, then add your coffee on top. Or dilute the horchata with milk to make your latte.

Tips

Here are some tips on making a great Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte at home:

  • If you want to make this drink in the future and don’t have the cereal, make your own Cinnadust at home with just sugar and cinnamon.
  • For a different taste, try using brown sugar instead of regular sugar. The drink will have a more molasses or caramel flavor, which works perfectly with cinnamon.
  • Strain the cereal milk mixture if you want smooth milk. The cereal sometimes leaves grain bits in the milk, which can be unpleasant when drinking.
