Blueberry syrup is so easy to make at home and will take your blueberry latte to the next level. You won’t regret trying this fruity coffee drink!
Here’s how to make a creamy iced blueberry latte at home!
What is a Blueberry Latte?
This iced blueberry latte is a delicious latte made with homemade blueberry syrup, ice, milk, and espresso. It’s a classic fruit-flavored latte that works so well together. Coffee and fruit are a great combination, and the milk makes it so creamy and delicious.
Just imagine strawberry milk with espresso but with blueberry. It’s sweet, creamy, and slightly floral, too! You can have this hot or cold, but I prefer it cold (it’s more refreshing that way)!
What Does a Blueberry Latte Taste Like?

This blueberry latte tastes sweet, earthy, and slightly tangy! Blueberries themselves are sweet, tart, earthy, and a little floral, and it comes through in this drink. Coffee has a similar flavor profile (earthy, sour, bitter) so the two flavors mix well together and bring out the best in each other.
I find that the earthiness helps make the coffee taste less bitter and the fruit gives it a nice, light flavor.
Does Blueberry Go Well in Coffee?
As mentioned, fruit and coffee go great together, and blueberry is no exception! Blueberry isn’t as popular of a flavor for cafe drinks like orange, mango, or strawberry, and it’s so underrated.
Blueberries give coffee such a nice aftertaste, kind of like a jammy flavor that is sooo addicting with coffee. I specifically love blueberry cold foam in a latte, it’s incredible.
The earthy flavor also pairs nicely with vanilla or brown sugar, which can make your drink taste like a blueberry bun or even a cinnamon roll!
How to Add Blueberry to Coffee

You can add blueberry to coffee in multiple ways, but my favorite way is by making homemade blueberry syrup. It’s so rich and jammy, which is perfect for flavoring milk for espresso. Your syrup can be more runny or sauce-like, and they’ll flavor it the same way.
For more convenience, you can also blend blueberries straight into milk for blueberry milk. Make sure to strain it out for a smoother consistency.
For a really, really easy way, you can add blueberry jam to your milk and make blueberry milk that way! Just be careful of the sugar, it’s hard to adjust sugar using a jam; plus, jams are super sweet!
You can also blend dried blueberry powder into milk for a concentrated, creamy blueberry latte.
Which Blueberries to Use

There are so many types of blueberries in all sorts of forms, and you can use any you have available. This recipe uses fresh blueberries, but frozen blueberries work perfectly, too!
Dried blueberries are quite chewy and tough, so unless you infuse them in milk, it’ll be hard to make syrup with them. They make for a great garnish, though! And freeze-dried blueberries are easy to use if you blend them into a powder, which you can use in milk, cream, etc.
Wild Blueberry vs. Blueberry
If you’ve ever seen small, blueberry-like fruit growing on bushes, chances are that’s a wild blueberry which is sweeter and healthier for you than normal blueberries!
Wild blueberries are smaller, more intensely flavored blueberries with almost double the antioxidants a normal blueberry has.
So, if you have wild blueberries in your grocery store, try using them in your syrup and this drink! I’m sure it will taste even better and more blueberry-like than using regular blueberries.
How to Make Blueberry Syrup

Blueberry syrup is so easy to make and only takes 3 ingredients: water, sugar, and blueberries.
I like using a 1:1 ratio of blueberries to water, so 1 cup of blueberries and 1 cup of water. I use 1/2 – 1 tbsp of sugar since blueberries tend to be sweet already, but you can make it as sweet as you’d like.
Add your water, blueberries, and sugar to a small pot, then heat until the sugar dissolves and your blueberries start releasing juices. You can smash the blueberries to get more juice out.
Simmer until you get your desired consistency, and let it cool before straining and pouring it into a syrup jar or bottle.
How to Store Blueberry Syrup
Once you’ve made your blueberry syrup or sauce, store it in an airtight container like a mason jar or lidded syrup bottle. If you don’t have a sealable jar or bottle, you can also use a small tupperware. Keeping it airtight helps preserve the syrup for longer.
Then, store your syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Depending on how much sugar your syrup has, it can stay fresh for even longer.
Note: You shouldn’t leave the syrup on the counter unless you use at least a 1:2 ratio of water to sugar in your syrup, which acts as a natural preservative.
