Once I tried a blueberry cold foam latte at a local cafe near me and my life was forever changed. The cold foam is sweet, creamy, slightly fruity, slightly tangy, and delicious on top of a smooth iced latte. It’s one of the most underrated flavors yet so good!
Blueberry cold foam is super easy to make at home and you can use it on top of any drink you’d like! It’s perfect with vanilla and coffee, for a blueberry pastry vibe.
Here’s how to make a blueberry cold foam latte at home!
What is a Blueberry Cold Foam Latte?
An iced blueberry cold foam latte is a regular iced latte with a blueberry cold foam cream top. The latte can be plain or flavored, but this one has a hint of vanilla bean syrup in it which takes it to the next level.
This combo is so delicious and it’s now one of my favorite iced latte combinations to make at home. It’s super creamy, light, fruity, slightly floral, and just delicious.
What does a Blueberry Cold Foam Latte Taste Like?

This blueberry cold foam latte tastes like a blueberry vanilla bun and coffee in a drink. It’s so good. It also tastes like a lighter blueberry pie since the blueberry syrup mixes with the cream and not the milk like in a regular blueberry latte.
First, you get a delicious sip of blueberry cold foam, which is creamy and fruity. Then you get the smooth coffee with a hint of vanilla that balances the fruity and tangy flavors.
Additionally, the texture contrast between the cream and the drink makes this drink so fun.
Do Blueberries and Coffee Go Together?
Fruit and coffee go great together since coffee itself comes from a fruit (the coffee cherry.) Blueberry is no exception. While it isn’t as popular of a flavor for cafe drinks like strawberry or orange, it makes for a delicious cup of joe.
Blueberries give coffee such a nice aftertaste, kind of like a jammy flavor that is sooo addicting with coffee. I specifically love blueberry cold foam in a latte, it’s incredible. It reminds me of the blueberries in blueberry bagels that are super sweet!
The earthy flavor also pairs nicely with vanilla or brown sugar, which can make your drink taste like a blueberry bun or even a cinnamon roll!
What is Cold Foam?

Technically, cold foam refers to frothed cold milk, which has a foamy, frothy texture. It’s aerated milk that adds a creaminess to iced drinks. Usually, it’s made with any cold milk, including dairy and dairy alternative milk.
However, these days cold foam can also mean softly whipped heavy cream, which when whipped gives you a thicker, creamier texture. It’s decadent and delicious, especially on top of brewed coffee or lattes.
When you buy drinks at a cafe, if the menu says cold foam, chances are it’s either a cream top (gently whipped cream) or a sweet cream cold foam (whipped milk and cream together.)
Cold foams are super easy to make and come in as many flavors as you can think of, like blueberry, brown sugar, cherry, vanilla, etc.
How to Make Blueberry Syrup

Blueberry syrup is easy to make and only takes 3 ingredients: water, sugar, and blueberries.
I like using a 1:1 ratio of blueberries to water, so 1 cup of blueberries and 1 cup of water. I use 1/2 – 1 tbsp of sugar since blueberries tend to be sweet, but you can make it as sweet as you’d like.
Add your water, blueberries, and sugar to a small pot, then heat until the sugar dissolves and your blueberries start releasing juices. You can smash the blueberries to get more juice out.
Simmer until you get your desired consistency, and let it cool before straining and pouring it into a syrup jar or bottle.
How to Make Blueberry Cold Foam
Blueberry cold foam is super easy to make with heavy cream and blueberry syrup. You can also make it with heavy cream and milk for a thinner sweet cream cold foam. This recipe uses the homemade blueberry syrup mentioned above, but you can use prebought syrup or even blueberry jam for convenience.
All you need to do is combine the ingredients in a cup or bowl, then whip it using an electric frother or whisk until it is soft and fluffy. You want it to still be pourable, so stop before you get to the whipped cream stage. It should have the consistency of a thicker smoothie.
Your cold foam will have a gorgeous purple hue, and if it doesn’t, you can always add food coloring!

Do I Need Espresso?

While espresso is ideal for these latte drinks, you don’t need it.
In fact, many coffee methods can replace espresso! As long as you have a concentrated coffee, you can use it as a substitute.
The best espresso substitutes include moka pot coffee, instant espresso powder, and coffee concentrate. Moke pots are stovetop coffee machines that make a strong, bold coffee which is the closest espresso replacement.
Instant espresso powder is a close second, but it loses that fresh coffee flavor as a result of convenience. Coffee concentrate is also a convenient and easy option but is more watery than the other two methods.
