This is literally apple pie in latte form. It’s slightly sweet, crisp, creamy, and delicious, with a great coffee flavor. This iced apple pie latte is the perfect drink for fall; when the weather turns colder, we start craving comforting autumn treats like apple and pumpkin.
An apple pie latte is super easy to make at home, with some apple juice or cider, spices, milk, ice, and espresso. It only needs 5 ingredients and less than 15 minutes to make a great fall treat!
So, here’s how to make an apple pie latte at home!
What is in Apple Pie?
Nothing is better than a freshly baked apple pie! Apple pies have cooked cinnamon-spiced apples packed into a pie pastry and baked until golden brown. Sometimes, people add a variety of other warm spices, too, like cardamom, nutmeg, or ginger.
The best apples for apple pies are firm and slightly sour since they cut the sweetness of the filling. Many recipes call for brown sugar instead of regular sugar to add a slight caramel flavor that complements the apples and cinnamon!
Is Apple Crisp the Same as Apple Pie?
Apple crisp is similar, but not the same, as apple pie.
Apple pie is baked in a pie crust and pastry that completely seals around the cooked apple pie filling.
On the other hand, Apple crisp is cooked apples topped with a sweet, crunchy oat topping. This dessert has no pastry or crust, and the crunch comes from a crispy layer of oats, similar to a granola.
The two desserts have a similar flavor profile but differ in their topping and crust.
Do Apple and Coffee Go Together?

Surprisingly, coffee and apples go great together! Coffee is acidic and has a lot of fruity flavor notes, which match perfectly with apples, which are tart and slightly sweet.
You can make so many delicious drink combinations with apple syrup or juice with coffee. From this delicious apple pie latte to an apple crisp macchiato, caramel apple coffee, and so much more.
The spices with apple syrup give coffee drinks a warm character since it practically screams fall. Any drink with apple and coffee tastes especially delicious, with a little vanilla extract and whipped cream on top to emulate that apple dessert experience.
What is a Latte?
A latte is steamed milk with a shot or two of espresso. In an iced version, the milk is cold.
A latte has so much milk because espresso is a very concentrated coffee made from running water through finely-ground coffee at high pressures. On its own, espresso is incredibly strong-tasting and bitter, so it needs more milk to balance the flavors.
Lattes are perfect for creative beverages because it’s much easier to flavor milk than brewed coffee.
You can add different flavored syrups, spices, creams, types of milk, and so much more. So, it’s perfect for an apple pie latte like this!
How to Make Spiced Apple Syrup

To make this apple pie latte, you’ll need apple syrup.
You can either buy it premade or make it yourself! You can make apple syrup in multiple ways, including juicing or infusing simple syrup, but my favorite way to make it is by reducing premade apple juice or cider.
With 100% pure apple juice or cider, it’s easy to make syrups by boiling the juice on the stovetop until a lot of water evaporates. Once the water evaporates, you’re left with a concentrated apple syrup with all the apple flavor and sweetness without the extra bells and whistles of cleaning up bits of apple pulp or skin.
Once you get the syrup to a consistency you like, add your spices and let it simmer for 2 minutes. Then, wait for it to cool before using in a drink or bottling it up to put in the refrigerator.
Where to Find Apple Syrup
You can buy apple syrup from the store or online for extra convenience. Since apple is a niche flavor, most big grocery stores won’t carry it unless it’s in season.
You’ll have the highest chance of getting apple syrup online from smaller grocery brands or stockists or ordering off a syrup brand’s website.
Popular syrup brands include Torani, Monin, and 183, which are popular brands that many cafes and coffee shops use in their drinks!
If you want to recreate your favorite coffee shop’s seasonal lattes (like apple or pumpkin spice), these syrups will give you the same flavor. Just note which syrup brand they use and pick one up!
How to Make an Iced Apple Pie Latte

Here’s what you’ll need to make an iced apple pie latte at home:
- Homemade or premade spiced apple syrup
- For homemade syrup: apple cider and pumpkin spice
- Espresso
- Milk
- Ice
Iced Apple Pie Latte Recipe
To make homemade spiced apple syrup, add your apple cider to a small pot and boil on medium heat until it reduces to half its size. The liquid should be viscous but not sticky and still runny.
Add your pumpkin or apple pie spice to the syrup and simmer for 2 minutes on low heat. Once the spices are well incorporated, let the syrup cool before use or bottling for storage in the refrigerator.
Brew 1-2 espresso shots or a strong coffee equivalent for the iced apple pie latte. Then, add ice, syrup, and milk into a separate cup. Top with your brewed coffee or espresso, mix, and enjoy!
Do I Need Espresso?
If you don’t have an espresso machine, there are other ways to make espresso or the equivalent. My favorite option is using a Moka pot, an Italian-style espresso stovetop maker.
It works by having hot water push out coffee grounds through a closed chamber. It’s easy to use, but refining the brewing process takes some practice.
For a super easy method, you can use instant espresso powder, which you can find at most grocery stores.
